How We Help

Coastal Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) provides free, high-quality primary health care for qualified uninsured adults in Ocean County, New Jersey. We focus on consistent, ongoing care that helps patients manage health concerns early, avoid complications, and reduce unnecessary emergency room and urgent care visits.

The clinic is open every Thursday,
and on other weekdays depending on clinician availability.

Clinical Services

  • Primary and ongoing medical care

  • Physical exams and preventive health screenings

  • Women’s health services, including cervical and breast cancer screenings (NJCEED partnership)

  • Diabetes care and chronic disease management

  • Mental health counseling and adult psychiatric services

  • Diagnostic testing through Southern Ocean Medical Center

  • Prescription Assistance Program (medication access support)

  • Vision and diabetic eye screenings through the NJ Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (NJCBVI)

  • Free eyeglasses for eligible patients

  • Flu and other seasonal vaccines when available

  • Social service referrals and care coordination

  • Health education and wellness support


Eligibility Requirements

Coastal Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) serves qualified uninsured adults based on Ocean County residency and household income. Eligibility is determined using Federal Poverty Level guidelines and clinic requirements.

To qualify, you must:

  • Provide proof of Ocean County, New Jersey residency (P.O. Boxes are not accepted)

  • Provide proof of total household income (all sources, including spouse income when applicable)

  • Have household income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL)

  • Have no health insurance

If you are eligible for Medicaid, Medicare, or VA care, you should use those designated providers. If you do not meet CVIM requirements, we will assist with an appropriate referral.

Eligibility documentation is required before a medical appointment is confirmed. For acute concerns, we make every effort to schedule promptly with the understanding that eligibility completion is required.

You will need to provide:

  1. Proof of Ocean County residency: driver’s license, lease, landlord letter, utility bill, or other official document showing your address.

  2. Proof of total household income: pay stubs, Social Security documentation, pension/disability statements, unemployment documentation, and/or your Federal 1040 tax return. For married applicants, spouse income must be included.

  3. Insurance status: if you have insurance, you are not eligible. If you qualify for Medicaid, Medicare, or are a Veteran eligible for VA services, you should use those designated providers. If you do not meet CVIM requirements, the clinic will assist with an appropriate referral.

Only patients who meet residency and income requirements will be scheduled for medical appointments. For acute illness, CVIM will make every effort to provide the earliest possible appointment, with the expectation that eligibility documentation will be completed.

Spanish interpretation is available. Trained bilingual staff and interpreters are available during clinic hours.

What to Bring to Your First Visit

A) Identification

  • State-issued photo ID showing your current address

  • Additional proof of residency (utility bill, lease, etc.)

  • Any other government-issued ID cards

B) Financial Information

  • Names, ages, and relationships of everyone in your household

  • Proof of household income (examples: last tax return, W-2s, pay stubs, benefit statements, award letters for Social Security/unemployment/child support, etc.)

  • Documentation of any assistance you receive from individuals, ministries, or agencies

C) Medical Information

  • Medication bottles for prescriptions, supplements, and vitamins you currently take or recently took

  • Any medical records you have available

  • A written list of health questions or concerns you want to discuss
