Volunteer Spotlight: Angelica De Leon
This month, Coastal Volunteers in Medicine is proud to recognize Angelica De Leon as our May Volunteer of the Month.
Angelica began volunteering with Coastal VIM within the last year and has already made a meaningful impact on our clinic, staff, and patients. She has rearranged her work schedule so she can come in weekly to help translate for our Spanish-speaking patients, making care more accessible and helping our bilingual staff focus on the many other needs of the clinic.
Her presence has been a true gift to our team and to the patients we serve. Having a dedicated volunteer translator on-site regularly has been a game changer, especially for patients who may otherwise face language barriers when trying to access care.
Reflecting on her experience, Angelica shared:
“Ever since I started volunteering with CVIM, I have been accepted into the team with open arms. My experience with the staff and patients has opened my eyes to a side of medicine that is often overlooked, where language barriers influence access to care. I am beyond grateful for the opportunity I have to contribute to the medical field and patient’s lives through CVIM.”
Angelica, thank you for sharing your time, compassion, and talents with Coastal VIM. Your support helps us provide care with dignity, understanding, and compassion. We are so grateful to have you as part of the Coastal VIM family.
